Oman's new Labour Law gives every private-sector worker a generous annual leave allowance. Here's what you need to know: how many days, when it starts, and how the days you didn't take are paid.
The rule (Royal Decree 53/2023)
- At least 30 paid days of leave a year.
- You start earning it after 6 months of service.
- Your contract can give you more, not less.
What unused days are worth
When your employment ends, the remaining days are paid out. On OMR 600 basic, a day is worth OMR 20.000:
| Unused days | Amount owed |
|---|---|
| 5 | OMR 100.000 |
| 10 | OMR 200.000 |
| 20 | OMR 400.000 |
| 30 | OMR 600.000 |
Worth knowing
- Your employer sets the timing of your leave together with you.
- Annual leave is separate from sick leave, maternity leave and public holidays.
- Your leave balance is added to your end-of-service benefit at final settlement.
